Job Description:

Vancomm is hiring for a full-time Aerial Communications Lineman in the Midwest Market. The Aerial Communications Lineman will be responsible for stringing and maintaining fiber optic, Coax, and Copper cable which includes pulling, tensioning, and stranding. This individual must be able to maintain and repair overhead telecommunications lines. This position will require proficiency with new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, lashing, make readies, and equipment mounting. This position requires work to be performed in the communication space, and previous experience is preferred.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for customer premise and outside plant installations, including framing, mounting, pulling, and grounding
• Resolution of OSP Construction/Design issues.
• Provide splice closure hanging and lowering services for splicing crews as needed
• Install demarcation enclosures, switches and other telecom equipment
• Participating in project meetings and effectively support the overall project effort.
• Managing the project schedule to ensure the project milestones and deadlines are met.
• QA/QC - Inspecting and assure construction work quality
• Managing documenting and recording construction field changes. (Red line).
• Attending bid walk, pre-construction walk, in progress site visits, punch walks and construction closeouts.
• Provide direction to in house and contract personnel when doing ground work.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

To perform the Aerial Communications Lineman job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum Qualifications

• Three plus (3) years of telecommunications/wireless construction experience.
• Hands-on knowledge of Outside Plant Construction techniques (aerial & underground)
• Ability to interpret and understand fiber optic test results.
• Fiber installation, hub/node construction and related utility make-ready.
• Familiarity with construction drawings.
• Familiarity with Rules for Overhead Electric Line Construction or Public Right of Way experience is necessary, and any small cell experience is a definite plus
• Experience related to aerial and below-ground fiber construction, node construction and related utility make-ready work a plus.
• Previous customer service experience in field support.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Internet.
• Able to perform basic math and solve simple equations.
• Must be able to work flexible hours and respond to after hour service calls when required.
Driving Requirements
• Able and willing to travel to customer sites.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record with minimal traffic violations.
• Must be at least 21 years of age to drive a company vehicle.
• Able and willing to operate a forklift.
• Able and willing to travel up to 75% of the time.
• Able and willing to do overnight travel when required.

• Must be able and willing to do overnight travel
• This position requires you to drive a company vehicle. Therefore, you must be able to pass the company’s driving requirements. Certain vehicles may also require a specific drivers license and have additional driving requirements.
• Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
• Must be able to differentiate colors.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis.
• Must be able to safely work from ladders
• Must be able to safely climb utility poles
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time
• Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
• Must be able and willing to work varying schedules which may include nights, weekends, and public holidays.
• Risk of electrical shock.
• This position requires working in an Outside Plant environment. Therefore, expect varying working conditions.
